Janice Dorn, M.D., Ph.D., has been a full-time futures trader since 1994. Doctor Janice holds an M.D. in psychiatry and is board-certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in general psychiatry and addiction psychiatry. She holds a Ph.D. in brain anatomy. A graduate of Coach University, she is a pioneer market psychiatrist and financial neurobehaviorist. Doctor Janice has written over 500 articles on the financial markets and coached over 600 traders worldwide. Every Sunday, my friend waits for the 8 pound newspaper to be delivered, so that she can spend hours pouring over the
ads and colored fliers, looking for a new reduced-price house to buy. Several hours later, she and her husband fill up their
oversized SUV with price-gouged gasoline and drive around this 1000 square mile city looking for a house. They find a couple
of houses, spend some time walking through them, and then return to their home because they like what they have already.
So the rest of the week, they talk about the project they will do that week to improve their present home in some way to
get it even nicer than it is so that they will love it even more. And they do that, even if it is something small like putting a
new cactus in the front yard, or buying some twinkling lights to put in the back.
And they love their home more that week than they did before. They really love it.
Then Sunday comes again, and guess what? The entire process starts again. The paper, the expensive gas, the driving
around all day and then returning to their wonderful home and vowing that they love it more, don't want to leave it and will
do a little something in the next week or so to make it even better for them.
This Sunday activity has been going on for over three years now. The results are always the same, and yet it continues.
Why?
Because they are convinced that if they keep doing this week after week and year after year, eventually, they will find a better
(and cheaper) home. Every time they think they have found something better, they realize that what they have is perfectly
wonderful, works to their satisfaction and gives them what they want-consistently, day in and day out. What they have
works and works well and any changes they make just makes it better and more desirable and comfortable for them. The small
improvements they make on a consistent basis are fun for them. It's all good.
Yet, it is the perception that there is something better out there that keeps them going back out week after week, spending
their precious time and money to look for something that they think they want, but they really don't need.
Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.
It is the same in the markets. People go from advisory service to advisory service, newsletter to newsletter, chat room to
chat room, trading system to trading system. One signs up for a service, gets some kind of instant rush that "this is IT" and
expect that this is the answer to their trading troubles, and now everything is wonderful because this is such a great service
and everyone talks about it and there is a special reduced price if you act NOW, so why not?
Adrenaline rush, dopamine rush,
then buyers remorse. The hundreds and thousands of percent gains promised by these services do not materialize within
the first few days, so they unsubscribe. Move on, keep looking for the Holy Grail.
Well, wake up people! There is no Holy Grail. This is hard work and the market gives you nothing unless you work for it.
