The term "burnout" is used frequently among traders, but few understand what it really is or what to do about it.

Here are the 13 most common symptoms of burnout in traders:

Chronic fatigue - exhaustion, tiredness, a sense of being physically run down

Anger at those making demands

Self-criticism for putting up with the demands

Cynicism, negativity, and irritability

A sense of being besieged

Exploding easily at seemingly inconsequential things

Frequent headaches and gastrointestinal disturbances

Weight loss or gain

Sleeplessness and depression

Shortness of breath

Suspiciousness

Feelings of helplessness

Increased degree of risk taking

If you are experiencing four or more of these symptoms, it is time for you to take a close look at how you are living your life ( including, exercise, proper nutrition, family time and overall balance). If you are unable or unwilling to do the work to make the changes to get "right" with yourself, then you should stop trading immediately, as you are not in a clear state of mind to make rational decisions where your money is concerned.

I will have a lot more to say about burnout and preventing burnout over the coming months.
