Its energy storage systems are based upon its proprietary zinc-bromine rechargeable electrical energy storage technology. The company's systems combine its zinc-bromine batteries with computer hardware and software that interface with a customer's power source to recharge during off peak times and discharge power as needed. Its systems are used in various applications, including load management for generation, transmission, and distribution utilities; energy service companies; and commercial and industrial customers, as well as for the storage of renewable energy, such as wind, hydro, and solar energy production in both grid connected and grid independent environments. These systems are also used for the uninterruptible power supply and power quality protection from voltage, current, or frequency deviations for both commercial and industrial customers. The company was founded in 1981 and is headquartered in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin.
