TranSwitch Corporation, through its subsidiaries, engages in the design, development, and marketing of integrated digital and mixed signal semiconductor devices for the telecommunications and data communications markets. Its SONET/SDH products provide direct interface for fiber optic transmission in North America, Europe, and Asia. The SONET/SDH products are used to build access equipment, add/drop multiplexers, digital cross-connects, and other telecommunication and data communications equipment, as well as in customer premise equipment, such as routers and hubs; and in central offices, adding integrated fiber optic transmission capability to telephone switches. The company also provides Asynchronous/PDH products, which are used to configure transmission equipment to increase the capacity of the radio and copper-based public network. In addition, it offers ATM/IP products that provide the key functions of ATM/IP-based multiservice access multiplexer systems; and CellBus, a patented system architecture for implementing ATM/IP access multiplexers and ATM/IP switching systems. Its customers include telecommunications and data communications original equipment manufacturers serving public network infrastructure that supports voice and data communications; Internet infrastructure that supports the World Wide Web and other data services; and corporate wide area networks that support voice and data information exchange within medium-sized and large enterprises. The company was incorporated in 1988 and is headquartered in Shelton, Connecticut.
