LIN TV Corp. engages in the ownership and operation of television stations in the United States and Puerto Rico. As of April 11, 2005, the company operated 25 television stations in 14 markets. As of the above date, it owned approximately 20% of KXAS-TV in Dallas, Texas and KNSD-TV in San Diego, California through a joint venture with NBC Universal, a subsidiary of General Electric Company. As of April 11, 2005, LIN TV was a 50% nonvoting investor in Banks Broadcasting, Inc., which owned KWCV-TV in Wichita, Kansas and KNIN-TV in Boise, Idaho; a one-third owner of WAND-TV, the ABC affiliate in Decatur, Illinois; and had interests in WNDY-TV, the UPN affiliate serving Indianapolis, Indiana, as well as WWHO-TV, the UPN affiliate serving Columbus, Ohio. The company provides over-the-air broadcasts of its programming to communities, it is licensed to serve. It provides daily local news coverage, public service announcements, and political advertising time to candidates. LIN TV was formed in 1997. It was formerly known as Ranger Equity Holdings Corporation and changed its name to LIN TV Corp. in 2002. The company is headquartered in Providence, Rhode Island.
