The company operates in three divisions: Services, Systems and Equipment, and Technology. Services division offers services in physical media, which includes DVD and CD replication and distribution, VHS duplication and distribution, and film printing; electronic media that comprises post production, archiving, media asset management, and digital cinema; and network operations services, which consist of out-of-home advertising, play-out, and other related services. Systems and Equipment division provides video focused systems and equipment, such as television broadcast cameras, outside broadcast vans, and set-top boxes. This division also offers professional services for the global broadcast, film production, professional audio/video, and network providers, including cable, satellite, telecommunications, and terrestrial broadcast industries. Technology division provides licensing of patents and trademarks under various licensing programs to other manufacturers and technology groups. This division also produces television tubes and other components used in the manufacture of various consumer electronics products. In addition, this division offers software and technology solutions, such as security, user interface, imaging, and networking software. Thomson, formerly known as Thomson multimedia S.A., was formed in 1982 and is based in Boulogne Billancourt, France.
