The company provides pressure pumping services to oil and natural gas companies primarily in the Appalachian Basin. It also offers drilling fluids, completion fluids, and related services to oil and natural gas operators in west Texas, southeast New Mexico, south Texas, east Texas, Oklahoma, the Gulf coast regions of Texas and Louisiana, and the Gulf of Mexico. As of December 31, 2004, Patterson-UTI owned 361 land-based drilling rigs. The company also engages in the development, exploration, acquisition, and production of oil and natural gas in west Texas, southeast New Mexico, south Texas, and Mississippi. Patterson-UTI was formed in 1978 and is headquartered in Snyder, Texas.
