The company offers automated optical inspection (AOI) products for specialized applications in the manufacture of bare printed circuit boards (PCBs), assembled PCBs, and flat panel displays (FPDs). Its AOI systems use Orbotech's proprietary machine vision, electro-optics, precision mechanics, artificial intelligence and imaging technology to detect, automatically, flaws and defects in products being manufactured or assembled by its customers. The bare PCB product lines consist of PCB-AOI systems, verification and repair stations, imaging products, and computer-aided manufacturing systems for PCB production. The assembled PCB product line consists of AOI solutions for each production stage of assembled PCBs, verification and repair stations, and process control tool solutions. The FPDs are used as display screens in laptop and desktop computers, televisions, digital telephones, car navigation systems, video cameras, and various devices for technical, medical, military, aerospace, and consumer electronics applications. The company also develops and markets automatic check reading products to banks and other check processing organizations. It sells its products through wholly owned subsidiaries in the United States, Europe, the Pacific Rim, and Japan. Orbotech was founded by Shlomo Barak in 1981. The company was formerly known as Optrotech, Ltd. and changed its name to Orbotech, Ltd. in 1992. Orbotech is headquartered in Yavne, Israel.
