It offers chemical vapor deposition (CVD), physical vapor deposition (PVD), Electrofill, surface preparation/cleaning, and chemical mechanical planarization (CMP) systems. The CVD process is used to deposit dielectric films on wafers; and deposit conductive metal layers on devices. The PVD processes employ sputtering techniques to apply an ultra-thin metallic film to the surface of a wafer. It is used to create the barrier and seed layers in copper damascene interconnect applications. The Electrofill products are used to build the copper primary conduction layers in advanced integrated circuits. The surface preparation products are used to remove photoresist and other potential contaminants from a wafer. The CMP systems polish the surface of a wafer after a deposition step to create a planar surface. The company operates in the United States, as well as operates through subsidiaries in the United Kingdom, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Ireland, Italy, Israel, India, China, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, and Taiwan. Novellus Systems was founded in 1984 and is headquartered in San Jose, California.
