As of November 14, 2005, the company operated 150 schools in California, Florida, Illinois, Maryland, Nevada, New Jersey, North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia, and Washington. The company was founded in 1974. It was formerly known as Nobel Education Dynamics, Inc. and changed its name to Nobel Learning Communities, Inc. in 1998. Nobel Learning Communities is based in West Chester, Pennsylvania.
