Its Consumer Electronics segment designs, sources, imports, markets, and sells video products, including televisions, digital video discs (DVD), video cassette recorders (VCR), combination television/VCR/DVDs, and set top boxes; video accessories, such as telecommunication equipment, certain computer accessories, specialty consumer electronic products, and mobile electronics; audio products, including portable stereo systems, digital clock radios, shelf stereo systems, and specialty clock radios; microwave ovens; clocks and clock radios, home theater systems, and multimedia; and houseware products. This segment also licenses its consumer electronic products to certain licensees worldwide. The Sporting Goods segment manufactures and distributes sporting goods, as well as physical educational, recreational, and leisure products to the institutional market. This segment offers archery, baseball, softball, basketball, camping, football, tennis, and other sports; gymnastics; indoor recreation; game tables and physical education; soccer; field and floor hockey; lacrosse; track and field; volleyball; weight lifting; fitness equipment; outdoor playground equipment; and early childhood development products. The company distributes its products through mass merchants, discount retailers, toy retailers, and specialty catalogers, and the Internet. Emerson Radio was founded in 1948. It was formerly known as Major Electronics Corp. and changed its name to Emerson Radio Corp. in 1977. The company is headquartered in Parsippany, New Jersey.
