Landec Corporation and its subsidiaries engage in the design, development, manufacture, and sale of temperature-activated and other specialty polymer products for various food products, agricultural products, and other applications. Landec's Intelimer polymers are a proprietary class of synthetic polymeric materials that respond to temperature changes. Landec operates primarily in two segments, Food Products Technology and Agricultural Seed Technology. The Food Products Technology segment, operated through a subsidiary, Apio, Inc., markets and packs specialty packaged whole and fresh-cut vegetables that incorporate its proprietary Intelimer-based specialty packaging for the retail grocery, club store, and food services industry. The Agricultural Seed Technology segment, operated through a subsidiary, Landec Ag, Inc., markets and distributes hybrid seed corn and seed coatings using Landec's proprietary Intelimer polymers to the farming industry. In addition, the company also licenses and supplies products for industrial, consumer, and medical applications. The company was founded by Ray Stewart in 1986 and is based in Menlo Park, California.
