Layne Christensen Company provides various services and products to the water resources, mineral exploration, geoconstruction, and energy markets. It operates in four divisions: Water Resources, Mineral Exploration, Geoconstruction, and Energy. The Water Resources division provides water-related services and products, including hydrological studies, site selection, well design, drilling and well development, pump installation, and repair and maintenance. It also engages in the design and construction of water treatment facilities; and the manufacture and sale of products to treat volatile organics and other contaminants, such as nitrates, iron, manganese, arsenic, radium, and radon in groundwater. In addition, this division offers environmental services to assess and monitor groundwater contaminants. The Mineral Exploration division provides drilling services for the mineral exploration industry. Its drilling activities include all phases of core drilling, diamond, reverse circulation, dual tube, hammer, and rotary air-blast methods. As of January 31, 2005, the company also operated 134 gross producing wells. As of February 1, 2005, it had proved reserves of 26.6 billion cubic feet of natural gas. The Geoconstruction division offers various services comprising grouting, vibratory ground improvement, drilled micropiles, stone columns, anchors, and tiebacks for soil stability. It also manufactures high-pressure pumping equipment used in grouting operations and geotechnical drilling rigs used for directional drilling. Energy division focuses on exploration and production of coalbed methane properties in the midcontinent region of the United States. Layne Christensen's customers include municipalities; industrial, mining, and oil and gas companies; and consulting and engineering firms located principally in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Australia, Africa, and South America. The company was incorporated in 1981 and is headquartered in Mission Woods, Kansas.
