It also engages in population screening, health risk assessments, and supportive interventions. The company provides programs for people with diabetes, coronary artery disease, heart failure, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, end-stage renal disease, cancer, chronic kidney disease, depression, tobacco addiction, high-risk obesity, acid-related stomach disorders, atrial fibrillation, decubitus ulcer, fibromyalgia, hepatitis C, inflammatory bowel disease, irritable bowel syndrome, low-back pain, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, and urinary incontinence. It has a strategic partnership with Medco, Inc., a pharmacy benefit management company, to develop and distribute integrated medical and pharmaceutical management programs. The company was founded in 1981 as American Healthcorp. It changed its name to American Healthways, Inc. in 1999 and to Healthways, Inc. in February 2006. The company is headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee.
