Dynacq Healthcare, Inc., through its subsidiaries, engages in the development and management of general acute care hospitals that principally provide specialized general surgeries, such as bariatric, orthopedic, and neuro-spine surgeries primarily in the United States. The company also provides fertility, sleep laboratory, and pain management services, as well as minor emergency treatment services; and ear, nose, and throat services. Its hospitals include operating rooms, pre and postoperative space, intensive care units, nursing units, and diagnostic facilities, as well as medical office buildings that lease space to physicians and other healthcare providers. As of August 31, 2005, it owned four hospital facilities in the United States, as well as a 70% equity interest in Shanghai DeAn Hospital, a joint venture formed for the purpose of constructing a hospital in Shanghai, China. The company was incorporated in 1983. It was formerly known as Dynacq International, Inc. and changed its name to Dynacq Healthcare, Inc. in 2003. Dynacq Healthcare is based in Houston, Texas.
