It has five segments: Medical Devices, Imaging Solutions, Pharmaceutical Products, Medical Supplies, and Retail Products. The Medical Devices segment offers surgical instruments and devices, respiratory and monitoring solutions, and other medical devices. It offers its products to physicians, nurses, materials managers, group purchasing organizations, and governmental healthcare authorities. The Imaging Solutions segment provides contrast agents, contrast delivery systems, and radiopharmaceuticals to physicians, technologists, and purchasing administrators at hospitals, imaging centers, cardiology clinics, and radiopharmacies. The Pharmaceutical Products segment supplies active ingredients used in pharmaceuticals, dosage pharmaceuticals, and specialty chemicals. It sells active pharmaceutical ingredients to branded and generic pharmaceutical manufacturers; and dosage products to wholesalers and drug store chains. The Medical Supplies segment offers traditional wound care products, absorbent hygiene products, and operating room kits and accessories, as well as operates as an original equipment manufacturer of various medical supplies for various medical device companies. Its products are used in hospitals, surgi-centers, and alternate care facilities and are marketed to materials managers and group purchasing organizations. The Retail Products segment provides private label absorbent hygiene products, including private label adult incontinence, feminine hygiene, and infant care products to mass merchandisers, food stores, and drug stores. The company, formerly known as Tyco Healthcare, Ltd., was founded in 1960. It changed its name to Covidien, Ltd. in February 2007. The company is based in Pembroke, Bermuda.
