It also offers its products through the Internet. The company was formed in 1878 by George Warren Brown, Alvin Bryan, and Jerome Desnoyers under the name Bryan, Brown & Company. It changed its name to Brown Shoe Company in 1893. The company is headquartered in Clayton, Missouri. Brown Shoe Company, Inc. acquired Footwear Holdings, LLC, a privately held women's footwear design and wholesale company in April 2005.
