Brasil Telecom S.A. provides fixed-line telecommunications services in Brazil. It offers local and intrastate fixed line telecommunications services. The company's local fixed-line services include calls that originate and terminate within a single local area, as well as installation, monthly subscription, public telephones, and supplemental local services. Intrastate long distance services consist of intrastate and interstate calls, and international long distance services. The company also provides wireless telecommunications services using global system for mobile communications through its subsidiary, Brasil Telecom Celular S.A. In addition, it provides network services that comprise interconnection, leasing of facilities, and fixed-to-mobile services; and data transmission services. Further, the company provides various other supplemental local services, which include voice mail, call waiting, call forwarding, conferencing, speed dialing, caller ID, and advertising on public telephone cards. Brasil Telecom also offers Internet services. As of December 31, 2004, Brasil Telecom had 2,109 points of sale (POS), including 16 flagship stores, 48 kiosks, 800 exclusive authorized dealers and nonexclusive authorized sales agents, and 1,300 prepaid card resellers. These POS offer fixed-line, ADSL, mobile, Internet installation CDs, intelligent services, accessories, modems, and personal computers. The company is based in Brasilia, Brazil. Brasil Telecom S.A. is a subsidiary of Brasil Telecom Participacoes S.A.
