Bioanalytical Systems, Inc. and its subsidiaries provide contract development services and research equipment to pharmaceutical, medical research, and biotechnology companies and institutions in North America, the Pacific Rim, and Europe. It operates in two segments, Contract Research Services and Research Products. The Contract Research Services segment provides research and development support on a contract basis directly to pharmaceutical companies. Its services include product characterization; method development and validation; bioanalytical testing; stability testing; in vivo pharmacology; preclinical and pathology services; and Phase I, II, and III clinical trials. The Research Products segment designs, develops, manufactures, and markets robotic sampling systems and accessories, In vivo microdialysis collection systems, physiology monitoring tools, and liquid chromatography and electrochemistry instruments platform. Its products include Culex APS, a robotic automated pharmacology system, which is used by pharmaceutical researchers to monitor drug concentrations and response as a function of time; Epsilon, a single liquid chromatography and electrochemistry instrument control platform for the separation systems and chemical analyzers; Vetronics, a small animal diagnostic electrocardiographs and vital signs monitor that is used primarily in veterinary clinics; Bioanalytical separation systems; and specialized chemical analyzers. This segment serves pharmaceutical companies, universities, government research centers, and medical research institutions. The company also manufactures scientific instruments for medical research, which it sells with related software for use in industrial, governmental, and academic laboratories. Bioanalytical Systems was founded by Peter T. Kissinger in 1974 and is headquartered in West Lafayette, Indiana.
