The company operates in three segments: Architectural Products and Services, Large-Scale Optical Technologies, and Automotive Replacement Glass and Services. The Architectural Products and Services segment designs, engineers, fabricates, installs, maintains, and renovates the walls of glass and windows comprising the outside skin of commercial and institutional buildings, as well as offers paint and anodizing coating services for metal and plastic components used in window and curtainwall systems, and other products. This segment also provides repair and replacement of damaged glass, including commercial glass replacement, repair of doors, custom mirror work, and security glass. Its customers include general contractors, building owners, architects, and glazing subcontractors in the nonresidential commercial construction market. The company markets' this segments' products primarily in North America through a network of independent distributors and direct sales staff. The Large-Scale Optical Technologies segment manufactures glass and acrylic products for the custom framing and preframed art markets, as well as produces optical thin film coatings for consumer electronics displays, such as projection televisions and computer screens. These products are distributed through independent distributors in North America and to a limited extent in Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. The Automotive Replacement Glass and Services segment fabricates aftermarket automobile windshields and windows, and recreational vehicle and bus windshields. It serves primarily the domestic market of foreign and domestic automotive replacement glass, and original equipment manufacturers' windshields for recreational vehicles and buses. The company was founded in 1949 and is headquartered in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
