The Specialty Chemicals segment engages in the production of ammonium perchlorate for the aerospace and defense industries used as an oxidizing agent in composite solid propellants for rockets, booster motors, and missiles. This segment also produces and sells sodium azide used in automotive airbag safety systems, and Halotron, a chemical used in fire extinguishing systems. In addition, it also offers propellant grade ammonium perchlorate, which is used in the commercial space launch vehicles, and various defense-related missiles and rockets, as well as other solid fuel rocket motors. The Aerospace Equipment segment supplies commercial and military propulsion products and manufactures bipropellant thrusters for the satellite market. The Other Businesses segment designs, manufactures, and services equipment used to purify air or water in municipal, industrial, and power generation applications. These systems are used by municipalities and sewage plants for the disinfection of drinking water, effluent, and waste water; power plants, desalination plants, chemical plants, and on-shore/off-shore crude oil facilities for the control of marine growth in seawater used in cooling water circuits; and composting plants for the deodorizing of malodorous compounds in contaminated air. Further, the company involves in real estate activities. American Pacific Corporation was founded in 1955 and is based in Las Vegas, Nevada.
