As of December 31, 2004, the company owned a majority interest in 128 surgery centers in 30 states and the District of Columbia, of which 79 centers performed gastrointestinal endoscopy procedures, 39 centers performed ophthalmology surgery procedures, 5 centers performed orthopedic procedures, and 5 centers performed procedures in more than one specialty. AmSurg markets its surgery centers directly to third-party payors, including health maintenance organizations, preferred provider organizations, other managed care organizations, and employers. The company was founded in 1992 and is headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee.
