The segment's therapeutic products include antibiotics, anti-infectives, steroids, steroid combinations, glaucoma medications, decongestants/antihistamines, and anti-edema medications. Its nonpharmaceutical products comprise various artificial tear solutions, preservative-free lubricating ointments, eyelid cleansers, vitamin supplements, and contact lens accessories. The Hospital Drugs and Injectable segment manufactures and markets various injectable pharmaceutical products, including antidotes, anesthesia, and products used in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis and pain management. Its products are marketed to hospitals through wholesalers and other national account customers, as well as directly to medical specialists. The Contract Services segment manufactures products for third party pharmaceutical and biotechnology customers. The company serves physicians, optometrists, hospitals, wholesalers, group purchasing organizations, and other pharmaceutical companies. Akorn, Inc. has strategic partnerships with Strides Arcolab Limited; Akorn-Strides, LLC; FDC Limited; Hameln Pharmaceuticals Gmbh; and Cipla, Ltd. It also has a licensing, development, and supply agreement with Sofgen Pharmaceuticals to develop an ANDA oral drug product for women's healthcare. The company was founded in 1971 and is headquartered in Buffalo Grove, Illinois.
