It purchases newly originated and pre-existing (seasoned) eligible mortgage loans directly from lenders; exchanges newly issued agricultural mortgage-backed securities guaranteed by it for newly originated and seasoned eligible mortgage loans that back those securities in swap transactions; issues long-term standby purchase commitments for newly originated and seasoned eligible mortgage loans; and purchases and guarantees mortgage-backed bonds secured by eligible mortgage loans, which are referred to as AgVantage bonds. The company was founded in 1987 and is based in Washington, D.C.
