AEC also operates as an energy marketer in North America and the United Kingdom. The company was incorporated in 1906. It was formerly known as American Gas and Electric Company and changed its name to American Electric Power Company, Inc. in 1958. American Electric Power Company is based in Columbus, Ohio.
