The company operates through three segments: Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) and Channel, and Desktop Storage Group (DSG). The OEM and Channel segments provide Snap EDR, a product for business-critical data management, protection, and movement requirements of large distributed enterprises; Host Redundant Array of Independent Disks (RAID) technology that allows customers to leverage the input/output (I/O) components incorporated on their servers to connect them with RAID; Server-to-Server Synchronization software; a storage-virtualization software; Adaptec Storage Manager, which is a single RAID storage management system; the host I/O interfaces; iSCSI/Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol Offload Engine designed to enable storage area networks to be deployed using existing Ethernet infrastructure and protocols. The DSG segment offers I/O connectivity products, digital media products, and desktop storage solutions for personal computing platforms. Adaptec sells its products to enterprises, Internet service providers, small and midsize businesses, government agencies, value-added resellers, and retail consumers through OEMs and distribution channel customers worldwide. It has strategic alliances with Vitesse Semiconductor Corporation and ServerEngines LLP. The company was founded in 1981 and is headquartered in Milpitas, California.
